My Next Project - Making an (semi-accurate) GMC Motorhome

Well, after waiting many years for the right time, I finally won this off eBay tonight:

The 1980 Hess Training Van promo - or as I look at it, a 1/25 scale GMC 26' Motorhome.

I'll be doing quite a bit of scratchbuilding for this thing. Firstly, there is no true chassis; the promo-style platform has a battery compartment for lamps/etc.

So the first order of business will be constructing something like this:

Doesn't look too bad, aside from some of the bends in the frame rails. If anyone knows a good way to do those, let me know. I'm working on sourcing the powertrain and front suspension from either a JoHan Toronado or Eldorado.

Second order will be to construct an interior. As far as I've seen the Hess vans had lounge seating that circled the entire perimiter of the inner body.

That's the accurate (but gaudy) interior that I want to recreate. Which means scratchbuilding a lot of walls, panels, etc.

But, I think it'll be a fun project. While there are slight inaccuracies here and there, for the most part, I think it can be worked into a good example of a '73 Sequoia, and at the least, have an interesting entrant for a future model contest.

So much for working on the Pocher this winter...

Evan

P.S. Does anyone happen to have any tailights from the A-Team van, or any of the Revell "Custom Vans" that were built off the GM full-size van?

The lenses included with the Hess coach are not accurate at all. I'd be willing to buy or trade parts for them. Thanks a bunch.
