Aptera Short-Circuited

Aptera’s President and CEO Paul Wilbur has announced that California-based Aptera is closing its doors. It seemed that the company was just on the cusp of releasing a production version of the Aptera 2e, a 3-wheel, 2-seat electric vehicle that featured extremely efficient aerodynamics, a tadpole-shaped exterior, strong composite construction and a modular concept for its powertrain (parallel hybrid and gasoline-only versions were also planned). With its low center of gravity, wide-set front wheels and snappy power-to-weight ratio, it was an electric with a high fun quotient, as Road & Track learned during an extensive test drive of a prototype.
